When it comes to heavy-duty trucks and luxurious buses, the first name that pops in
your mind is Volvo. However, this Swedish automobile company is also involved in
manufacturing cars.
The Volvo Group came into existence in 1927. It was founded by Gustav Larson and
Assar Gabrielson. The company is mainly known for its manufacturing and marketing
trucks and buses. But they have a wide range of cars as well.
In 2016, the company was the world’s second-largest manufacturer of heavy-duty
trucks. But we are here to talk about Volvo XC60 I which is a luxury crossover SUV.
Volvo XC60 I: 2008 to 2017
Volvo is all about making large cars and trucks. Volvo XC60 I is a first-generation,
compact luxury crossover SUV by the company. They began its production in 2008 and
it continued till 2017. Currently, the XC60 series is in its second generation stage.
Volvo XC60 I was first revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in 2008. The sales started in
Europe in the same year and North America the following year.
It was also the best-selling car since 2009. It is based on the P3 platform by Volvo. This
car was designed with great off-road capabilities. It shares a lot of similarities with the
Land Rover Freelander. That’s because, at the time of development, both Volvo and
Land Rover was owned by Ford.
In 2013, the company introduced a fresh new version of the XC60 which was launched
in the market in 2014. Most of the updates were mostly cosmetic. For instance, they
made changes to the front driving lights, grille, and lower door sills. They also made
slight changes to the exhaust taillights and tips.
Volvo XC60 is in the second generation, but the first generation cars were the best in its
class. They are still in high demand in the market.
